‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: Meg Ryan Posts Heartfelt Homage to Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the late director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Devastating Incident
Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.
“How we will long for this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”
Legal Proceedings Unfold
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being held without bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.
“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan added. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”
Family Members Issue a Message
Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
Colleagues and Friends Remember
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner with a statement shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”
An Enduring Filmography
When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.
Reiner’s celebrated filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
