Tottenham Manager Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded two scores in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth top-flight at home defeat of 2025.

But the main topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when Vicario lost the ball well outside his area.

He ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.

But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Moments later when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham supporters booed him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

A particular of those booing sessions truly irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently jeered the situation and jeered after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated about the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals cannot be real Tottenham supporters that do that. Alright jeering after the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are with each other going forward."

Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I know the role Vicario is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the winning goal."

'It is In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Match

Italy international Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.

He said after the game that he had to take the criticism.

"The second score was a mistake of my own, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger challenge to overcome."

He stated being booed "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in composure and poise to reverse outcomes. This match is a poor loss and it's hard to accept."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was not an easy score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next most distant Premier League score of the season – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.

Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to aim for.

10 seconds elapsed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was 5 moments following the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for ages," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my interest lit up somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. Then it was all about trying to achieve the right contact and get it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was heading in."

'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager

While the keeper's mistake led headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to continue their home struggles.

This was their 10th home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a shared club record along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and title holders Liverpool to come prior to the close of the season.

Just a single of those wins have come since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."

Tottenham have lost four consecutive at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest rates on file in a single season (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a high profile role at a huge football club with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.

"The performances at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
