The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and the video site.
