An IT issue at the airport's air traffic control meant all flights could arrive or depart from the airport.

Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were suspended due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others experiencing delays.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the terminal as knock-on effects are managed.
