Alleged Harasser Questioned: 'Yet Imagine I Am Madeleine?'
A woman accused with stalking Kate McCann apparently left her a recorded message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal learned communication data and data retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most publicized investigations and remains unresolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "What if there is a tiny probability that I am she? What then? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a life here in Poland, I only wish to know," the message continued.
The jury was advised that by means of electronic messages, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, sent early photographs to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with law enforcement who collated the information, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with close associates of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On that date, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court was informed the co-defendant developed a connection online with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted via communication app to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the time preceding the visit to the village, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court heard communications between the two individuals, in November 2024, discussing endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We need to make a stand," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the visit to their house, the defendant dispatched a message which expressed: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark similar to investigators. I desired to accomplish this with another person I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
