Painters of all abilities – even beginners – will discover how to design and produce non-representational pieces. Part of the schedule will be spent outdoors, working on structured activities in the open. These charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be developed in the workspace, with participants creating multiple interpretive scenes in acrylics to be shown in the local community. The group has exclusive access of the venue, which is built around an open courtyard and has a sun terrace with views over the hills. The cost encompasses five days of painting tuition; full board; and an trip to the nearby fortress and additional points of interest.

Vegetarian Cooking in the Algarve

This Mediterranean cooking retreat, based at a riverside villa in the inland Algarve, is draws inspiration from the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Attendees will learn to produce selection of small dishes, take part in a falafel-making workshop, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses like a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

This energetic camp is an uplifting, inclusive weekend adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The daily schedule throughout the camp is a party-style group warmup, then several 90-minute workshops teaching various urban dance forms, then an hour-long freestyle session to demonstrate new moves. Participants are divided into groups based on ability and experience, so it is suitable for those who are completely new to popping and locking, all the way to advanced dancers or instructors. This event doesn’t include accommodation but there are a number of hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into central London.

Maritime Singing Weekend in Cornwall

St Ives is the excellent setting for a maritime music retreat. Guests will learn historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at composing original ones. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, performance tips and a closing performance. The retreat is held in a rural hotel overlooking the bay. All meals are included, such as a traditional tea on arrival, breakfast options, lunches to go and evening meals. Grog, unfortunately, is not provided. Writer and tutor Greg Mosse conducts the regular sessions on this authors' getaway. He covers everything from plot, characters, locations and suspense, to sending manuscripts to publishers.
